Bridal shows 2 weekends ago..

2 weekends ago, in the midst of preparing for our ROM, I took time off and did 2 bridal shows on Sat and Sunday..
Was great doing bridal shows again.. my last show was in 2006 when I was still with Electra Management..

The Sat show was at Gardenasia in far far away KRanji.. it was about 50 mins away from the east.. I enjoyed working with one of my closest babe, Shn and a another model whom I met in 2005s the new paper new face..

5 years later and we meet again! And now we are both with Phantom Management! Prob get more to work with Emiko again soon!
That night, the event was to promote having wedding receptions in a garden setting, so the place was very "flora and fauna" style...gowns were by Amanda Lee..

Her gowns, I must say, are very classy, elegant... I love the blue gown cos it was really easy to move around in it and the color suits olive skin tones..

And this gown here with the green trimmings is something out of the ordinary, something I would consider for my tea ceremony..but since Ive already gotten everything from Bridal Concept, I shall not want to spend anymore on these things..

Sundays show was for bridal concept.. the last time I did shows for them was in 2005 and am glad to be doing this show now cos I get to see the gowns that I can wear on my actual wedding day! Could even model in some of them!
They went with a Sping look, so make up was super colorful.. it was like a rainbow on our eyelids! I actually loved it, and may consider this for my own wedding! I prefer it unconventional, having done so many bridal shows, I no longer want to get the usual gowns and looks..

This gown has a very unique blend of blue and purple.. cant exactly decide what color this is, but I really love it cos the color doesnt age a person and it suits my skin tone..
This is a color I will never choose, cos to me,it ages a person.. the cut is nice tho!
This was a challenging gown to walk in.. it was totally backless, which I loved, but cos the sides didnt stick well to my skin, if I moved a single bit of my arms, the gown would open out and expose my inside!! But I would really consider this gown for my actual day, if that problem can be solved.

And finally, the bustier.. the most common kind of bridal gown.. prob wouldnt get a bustier for my own, cos its too common.. and now i cant wait to go back to Bridal concept to choose my gowns for DEc!

More pics from the shoot..

very night is a surprise as I uncover more pics uploaded on KW's (the nice and supherb photog) site..And I guess he is done with the set.. 49 pics!!

Here are some that I love!!

These pics were taken with no assistant! This means that the photog had to hold the reflector in one hand, and his heavy camera in the other..and the wind didnt help at all cos the stands were threatening to fly far away.. and my hair was uncontrollably messy.. thats y so many shots are of me holding my hair..

....and I think with those said, I think he did a marvellous job!!

Photos from the shoot last Sunday

I wasnt happy with the 1st shoot I had, so managed to get another great photog, KW to collaborate. This time, I did my own hair and make up and styling.. It was easy to put together the looks cos the feel of the shoot was more laid back and I am really happy with the outcome this time!

Here are the few that KW has posted in small res..many many more to come! We took 400+ shots in a span of 1.5hrs! And we nailed each look!

More pics without the shades to come!! They are mostly at the back..so KW hasnt gotten that far out to the hundreds yet!

My skin savers..

I wish I had been blessed with better skin.. but it has never been the case... so I have to work extra hard to prevent it from getting any worse..and I can already see signs of aging.. plus my big day is nearing!! So that's extra motivation for my almost nightly mask, eye creams and eye masks.

These are my fav products cos they work well and are reasonably priced!
Although this is supposed to be an expensive brand, I managed to get them cheaper online.. a small 30ml bottle costs $23 and can last for about 2 months!! It's the best thing Ive ever discovered! No wonder it's called miracle water!

This is another product which I without fail every day and night! It lightens the scars and spots over quite a short amount of time!

And this was given to me by Trav.. he uses it too! It soothes irritated and sensitive skin, which I get occasionally... supposed to heal scars too, but I guess mine are the "no hope" kind.

This, I stole from Trav dearee. He always says so..
Great for pimples! Nothing measures up to this.. but i seriously do not know where to get this..
And this was bought like more than a year ago... and I have yet to use up the product.. it is supposed to lengthen and thicken the eye lashes, and I think it works fairly well..
I already have long lashes on the top lid, so I cant really tell if it helped there.. but it definitely lenghtened my lower lashes!! It really makes a difference!

My Casting book..From eeky to brand new!

Went for casting today after a super duper long break from modelling.. took my portfolio along as usual.. I didnt realise how dirty it was till I arrived at casting and saw the other models' books.. they were nice and new.. and they were black in color.. and mine was white and eekky... luckily the client didnt mind the dirty book..
Things havent changed much.. except that im a few years older, more confident and now dont really care if the other models are pan-asians, taller or skinnier...I will stick to my belief that we Asian models can be as good, if not better.. even if we cant measure up in terms of our build or looks... we compensate that with better attitude and behaviour.

Here's the squeaky clean book after cleaning! Looks as good as new!! Gonna fill it up with new pics soon too!

Some new pics..

Did this yesterday, just after I cried all day the day before.. I think loads of editing needs to be done at the eyebags!!! Managed to get photoshop and I edited these a little bit..

Hope after editing, my pics will look better.. and I hope I get better at my shoots.. need more port pics cos its been 3 years since Ive done any modelling jobs with my previous agency..
am finally ready to be back to modelling and working with Phantom management instead this time..hope i get to do some bridal shows or runways..miss the days.. so i'd betta work harder on the t-mill!

The New Paper Wedding Planner- Jan 8 to 10

The year began on a perfect note!! I'm really looking forward to the rest of 2010.. my bday, our ROM, our wedding shoot, our wedding.. and of course, hopefully, the NUS outlet.. it's time for expansion!!

Back to the WEdding Game..

I'm glad I submitted the application.. even though it took up the whole of our weekend, there's really nothing to complain about cos after all, we rarely have this much time together..3 days in a row..

I even had the chance to stay over at Travs place cos we had to report very very early..

Met loads of lovely couples..

Waiting backstage with your loved one is indeed different from competing alone in a pageant.. we could jsut poke fun at each other and forget about the Butterflies in our tummies..
( For Trav, its Butterflies in his ass hole... as said by him.. )

WE performed a dance cum catwalk..
It's been a long while since Ive done any shows.. So this really felt like a craving being truly satisfied!

We aced the QnA segment.. telepathy indeed!

During the semi finals,we had to act out a Taiwanese drama scene.. our own versions.. so we made it really funny.. hope I can get hold of a video of it..
At the finals, we had to do the voice over of a scene in Sex in the City.. so we went on, non stop.. and made it a lil funny.. it went really well! Hope I can get a video of it too!

We will never forget the sweaty palms and super fast heart rate when waiting for the champions to be announced.. We actually saw a tick beside our name when the emcee was holding on to the results and talking..
The feeling was like... are we the winners?? Maybe not... argh.. we were damn kan cheong and I will always remember how hard we grasped each others hands..
It felt really awesome when we were announced the winner.. a feeling we will never forget..no words can express that feeling..
We'll never forget the 3 magical days.. for a very long, long time..

Staying sane

This week had been a mad mad one!! (Its only Thursday but I am already saying this.. ) Even though I have much less to teach, I havent had time to read the papers, flip thru my magazines from HK, and to make my Konyaku jelly.. I just had this sudden craving for it, I dont know why.. I wanna have it for breakfast... kinda wierd but maybe cos Im becoming insane..that I say things that dont make sense and do things that are so random...(konyaku jelly for breakfast??!! )

Meeting the contractors for the reno works,
planning the fashion show for this Sat Sun,
heading to the shops to discuss the fashion show outfits,
finding the right music for the fashion show (which I will be choreographing for the next 3 weekends),
coordinating other modelling jobs for the agency (great, tho. More jobs this month, loads in fact! ),
the list goes on...

While trying to stay sane in all this madness, I Found this picture of Xiang Lin and I, taken long long ago...

I think we have gone a long way in our careers.. no more modelling.. we are now super busy pple working our asses off to make $$!

But Im glad to say that these modelling agency things do not tire me out very much..even tho i never seem to get things all done..

(Back to planning the fashion show....)

Gone fishing for his little cat

Yea, my dear boy went fishing in Dayang... so I am left alone in Singapore for 4 days... Its pretty hard to not miss him.. Cos so many things in my life remind me of him... That day, he drank 2 cups of Slurpee like one after the other and was proud of his blue tongue (see pic)

In order not to feel lonely, I did what I missed doing alot.. went for a long long night run at the breezy ECP.. Like doing that alone, with no handphone... Just me, my jogging attire and shoes and blasting music on my Ipod.. Kinda feel good now.. After burning those cals.. and that nice long walk home frm ECP.. seldom get to do that..

Had a wierd time at the cafe this morning..had to open the place at 10am just for a VIP, which, till now, I still do not know who she is or where she is from.. Such things are silly.. but I guess in Singapore, must Law by Law lor...Otherwise will kena demerit point...

Went to my models' casting that day for an upcoming project.. kinda wierd cos me, being the booker for the agency, was not allowed to go into the casting room.. GRRR... So Silly again..Being there reminded myself of the days where I attended castings.. Now, I kinda see modelling in another perspective.. very different from before..
Met Shn and Jesicca at the casting..havent seen them since Miss Earth in 2006... Ah.. I just look super tanned.. Jesicca no longer has to complain she is tanned cos there is sum1 way darker than her by like a mill times..

Aiyo... I look so short in the pic... Shn is 176.. I am 172.. but I look like I'm 10cm shorter here.. Blame the heels...And I look super CHao-Da next to Shn... Blame the sun... but i like it that I'm tanned la..

Damn.. am suppose to bake my fudge brownie for Trav dear..but, I tink I'll bake it tmr.. otherwise I will just wollop everything and pass him just one small inch of it.. then I have to lie to him that the rest were not up to standard and were thrown away..

Feeling soo greedy these days.. Am always craving for Chocoroll (the choc love letters) and chocs at night.. Tink I beta go to slp.. so that I wont keep thinking about food.. (Something DEFinitely induced by Trav.. )

A fun photoshoot at nebo

We had a shoot yesterday for the NTUC labour day book. It was for a feature on the nebo community, to report on what this whole nebo membership thing is about.

The photographer, Nic was really good..the pics looked great on the laptop.. The lighting plus the color plus our bright outfits.. and the talents in it la... David, Trav Dear and I.. I was the shortest.. despite wearing 1 inch heels...

It was fun, cos it wasn't like those model shoot where you have to pose perfectly and look flawless.. This was more like a lifestyle shoot. The photog had a camera that costs $20 plus K... good stuff!!

Anw, he was to depict us being young entrepreneurs, working together as a team, talking to our staff and chilling out at our cafe. I must say that Nic had a unique but cool way of having us look natural in the pics.

We were really discussing serious matters and chattering away during the shoot. This made things easier for all cos the pics looked real and natural. It was funny when Trav dear had to lean on David (for that perfect angle.... hahah)

Anw, shall post some production shots when I get them from the camera at the cafe tmr..

Rusty Netty

Am dead tired after the 2 hr photoshoot this morning.. Had a nice time...

It has been 1.5 years since I did my last modelling assignent and I'm glad to be back! This morning's shoot was a good warm up for me.. It was for photoclub, where those who want to learn about photography pay for courses.

This morning was a fashion outdoor shoot. There were 8 students and one teacher who guided the students while I posed, posed, and posed while they snapped away.

It sounds easy and fun, but the humid weather made me persipire non-stop... and it wasn't very nice to have the sweat stains showing on my outfits..

Things went ok overall, but I guess I should have just took pains to style my hair instead of putting that hairband.. and minus the humidity which made my hair stick to my back...and minus the stupid button that came off my top even before they could shoot...

Rusty is the word to use... Need to get back on track soon...

A reminisce of the modelling and pageant days

Sometimes I just like to reminisce the past..especially the modelling days.. For the record, I officially began modelling in Sept 2004. I was offered a contract with Linsan Models, under the model division of Electra Management.. Was contracted with them for 2 years, afterwhich I didn't extend it as I preferred to be freelancing.

It has been almost a year and a half since I've stopped modelling.. it was partly due to my graduation from bizad, where I had to spend more time developing my businesses..then, it was my body that got a lil flabby in 2007.. (ok, I'm glad it's gotten lean again).. I lost lots of confidence and drive back last year..
Even though I was offered jobs and representation by agencies, I just felt that it wasnt just right.. Maybe it is just the perfectionist in me, cos I just did not want to be seen asunprofessional..in the sense that, if I wasnt in the right condition to model, I rather not risk my reputation...

Anyway, looking back at how I got started...
  1. In 2004..I was selected to represent my block at the Eusoff Hall DnD pageant. It was my first stint..Before the pageant, I already had thoughts of modelling, but did not have the courage and confidence to do so..
We had a dance item in this oriental looking top on the night of the pageant. I was against all the hall dancers. Being the only sporty one with no dance background among the lot, it was really tough looking like I could dance well next to the other 4 girls.

I didn't win.. just got a consolation prize of a huge Redken hair product hamper. The amount of products in it lasted me like a year?? I still have one tube of shampoo unused..Oh and I remember the gown was from Daniel Yam. We didn't even have a fitting and my skirt was too small. I did not zip it up all the way..Kinda wierd that I do remember such random stuff..

My pageant partner, Kim Liang won! Damn I looked so old.. I was only 20 then.. I think I looked more like a Mrs Something pageant contestant.. The hair-do is so aunty..

2. Not long after the pageant, I joined Linsan Models and was groomed by Colin and Renee. I have them to thank actually, for the catwalk lessons. It was then that I began modelling..

Had my first portfolio shoot in Oct 2004 with some other girls. It was fun, but looking back at the pics, I just had to laugh at myself. I will never post them anyway.. These two are the nicer ones among the lot of portfolio pics.

My hair and make-up was done by Renee. I didn't know much about make-up or how to style my hair (I still don't today).. It was through these 4 years of having my make-up done by make-up artists where I learnt abit here and there..
I did not want to attend those make up schools. No Point.. to me, make-up is an art, and there is no fixed way of doing it. You'll just have to dare to try, make mistakes and learn. I learnt how to accentuate my best feature and got better at it..Shall post more about make-up techniques nxt time.

Another shot from my 1st portfolio shoot. The pics were very much photoshoped..At least that's what I feel.. Anw, all models pics are edited.. it's just a matter of how much is done to perfect that look.
I was looking through all the portfolio pics the other day.. It would be a shame to use them at all...I didn't know how to pose, how to look natural and nice for the camera.. Just soooo off...

3. After a few months with Linsan, Colin called for a second portfolio shoot cos I was to be moved to the models division in Electra Management. So Anne, another model, and I did this shoot together..

I liked the whole set-up. The background, the plant, the oriental look. Even Colin was pleased with his work. We made a new comp card with the new pics and I started using them for the rest of my castings with Electra Management. I learnt alot in the 2 years I was with the agency. Did events, lots of bridal shows, product lauches and stuff. It was a great expereience.
From there, I joined the new paper new face in 2005 and learnt invaluable lessons. Lost the pics though..The finals was held at ngee ann city.. nice long stage and a great crowd..
After the newpaper new face, I decided to join MSU for more exposure and experience.

4. I still remember the auditions at mediacorp. All the girls were freezing in their bikinis while waiting for their turn. It wasn't cold.. it was just our nerves. I met Jade then.. we were childhood pen-pals but we lost touch after a while.. This world is just so small..

I was glad to be in the finals. We went through loads of training, photoshoots, videoshoots, public appearances and stuff. I was happy to have so many people supporting me.. My family, Trav Dear, friends at school, old friends from primary and sec sch..
It was just so nice whenever I get a sms or message from someone cos the pressure during that 2.5 mths was just too much for us girls. We had to juggle school/work and the pageant stuff, handle the bad mouths of the public and worse of all, we were the mockery of some people of the public who jsut like to say: "Aiyo.. lidat oso can be Miss Singapore ar?? "
Come on, how can you judge a person from just a photo, or from hearsay and gossip..I was quite lucky cos I did not receive much of such. Some girls had so much comments and gossips, about how they used to be the exgf of XXX and she dumped XXX for YYY...
I just hope someday, people will start to say: Hey let's applaud these girls for their courage, for daring to be on national TV in a teeny weeny bikini, answering random questions when their minds are drained from the lack of sleep and hours of rehearsals. You'll never know what we girls go through until you are in it yourself.

OMG... Me with shorter hair back then..fairer and skinner too..

One of our many videoshoots. Prancing around in our bikinis became a norm. Getting scrutinized by the public also became a norm. All of us just had fun and dismissed whatever bad comments we had. That's the spirit of us MSU girls!!
hahahaha... OMG.... The dreaded QnA Session for the top 10 girls. OK, I screwed up.. Pls don't ask me what I said that day...(XXXXXX CEnsored XXXX)

The bikini we wore in the finals was cool.. too bad we did not get to keep them. Having the pageant live on TV made everything more stressful for us all.. Timing, getting ready on time.. One mistake made is irreversible and not erasable.. That's how it is...

The evening gown walk was memorable. We all had our mums escort us down the stage. The mums were the most nervous among us all. I remember my mummy working out regularly, for the 1ST time ever!!!! She was really cute la...everyone remembered her that night.

Finally, the night was over! Joanne Peh was one of the judges.. She looked great too! Winning did not matter to me.. It was the lessons I took home that mattered more. After the entire MSU experience, I realised that every dream can become reality.
That was when I began to work on my dreams.. like starting out my own business after Graduation, being a role model and inspiration to others, sharing my experiences with others.. and I'm glad to day I've fufilled most of the dreams I had then.
Now, I have new dreams, new aspirations waiting to be turned into reality.

5. After MSU, I took part in Miss Earth. I joined cos it was a different kind of thing altogether. This one had a different cause. It was a low key event.. lesser publicity and less pressure anw.
This was a special runway show done during the Miss Earth period. We were at the helipad of Westin..It was a party. The music was great, the pple were great. The view was breathtaking!! I could see Singapore at night, in all directions. I hope to get back soon..

We had a pre-event party at KM8. It wasn't a good day for me.. I still remember.. Don't wana talk about it..

Coronation night. This was the finals where we had the usual bikini round and evening wear section for judging. There was also pre-judging where we all were not allowed to hae makeup on. (Well, some girls just didnt get it then.. No make-up means no mascara and stuff...)
I chose this blue, Arabic looking gown. It was from Yvonne's Creative. She has really nice gowns as compared to the rest of the bridal shops I've seen.
(Credits to TNP for the pic)

6. Some bridal shows

This was the last bridal show I did before my contact ended..
Being the model manager of Crossroads Models has also given me the chance to interact with some of the other girls. I'm glad that some of the new girls look up to me and respect me for my advice. I love this job!
I miss modelling alot.. it's not for the $. It's the passion, the friends I meet and the never-ending experience I get each time.
I will be back.. slowly, but surely...
